The story of Ka Punahou (the new spring) and hala tree emblem are the source of inspiration. Patterns were decidedly rhythmic to echo the synchronous cadence in which the young musicians participate.
Observational photos & sketch studies of the Hala tree revealed unique patterns in root structure, trunk, fruit, stems and leaves. This inspired additional pattern designs.
